The paper presents the results of preliminary research works carried out in the ŁUKASIEWICZ
Research Network - Rail Vehicles Institute "TABOR" in cooperation with CLAAS Polska on the
development of a rail-road tractor concept for maneuvering works with the rolling stock in the
open area and the closed spaces (maintenance and repair halls). As a result of the theoretical
and design analyses, the concept of a two-drive (diesel-electric) rail-road tractor was developed.
The general concept of the mechanical part of the tractor designed based on the massproduced
CLAAS ARION 610 tractor is shown. The variant solutions of electric drive of rail
axles and braking systems of the vehicle are presented.
