ABSTRACT
The article outlines a brief history of the development of the public transport system based on
trams. Basic information about modern solutions of trams operated in Poland and in neighboring
countries was presented. The main part of the article is a review of the construction of various
types of modern trams. Tram types are grouped depending on the diversity of basic construction
solutions. The last part of the article presents general comments on the directions of
development of technical solutions to ensure their more efficient and environmentally friendly
operation.
